Cicerone The Lleyn Peninsula Coastal Path<P>Cicerone The Lleyn Peninsula Coastal Path

(Ref. Code. ISBN 9781852844790)

The route connects the pilgrim sites leading to the remote island of Bardsey, dating back to the 6th century. In doing so its 95 miles cross a variety of landscapes from rocky cliffs to secluded bays. The nature of the landscape means that diversions inland have to be made, but although the route crosses hills and rises to over 1000ft in places the coast is always nearby.

The Lleyn has many tiny lanes and byways which allow cyclists to complete the route. Whilst many of the cliff paths are only for walkers cyclists can still sample the delights of this exquisite area and details of cycle routes are included.

An accommodation guide, distance charts, and access and transport points provide additional information, together with an informative introduction which includes the region's geology, history, flora and fauna, topography and weather conditions. The long-distance walk is divided into 15 clear sections of between 7 and 19 miles.

Cicerone Glyndwr's WayCicerone Glyndwr's Way
(Ref. Code. ISBN 9781852842994)

Glyndwr's Way, named after Owain Glyndwr who led the Welsh in a rebellion against the English in the 15th century, is the third National Trail in Wales and a fitting tribute to Wales‘s greatest hero. The 132 mile (212km) Glyndwr’s Way runs from Knighton to Welshpool, where the route links with Offaís Dyke to create a 172.5 mile (277.5km) circular walk back to Knighton. The Way passes through farmland, forestry and open hill-land, following old Roman roads, drovers' roads and modern public rights of way. The route is full of interest, with varied flora and fauna and many historical sites relating to Owain Glyndwr.

The book describes the route in twelve sections, providing information on places of interest, as well as the practical facilities walkers need. The route is illustrated with OS maps. The guide also provides the historic background to Owain Glyndwr and the Welsh Revolt, and details a number of the prophecies, myths, legends and traditions surrounding him.

Cicerone Ridges Of SnowdoniaCicerone Ridges Of Snowdonia
(Ref. Code. ISBN 9781852843502)

This guide brings together the best ridge walks in Snowdonia. In describing them the author has tried to be both readable and accurate, which should help to explain the unusual layout. The raw material of the route - map, information, route description - is presented in four no-frills pages, while the general chit-chat and photographs are allowed to follow on at their leisure. This means you have the option to glance through one or the other according to need, and without having to plough through an unnecessary amount of verbiage.

Cicerone Hillwalking in SnowdoniaCicerone Hillwalking in Snowdonia
(Ref. Code. ISBN 9781852843496)

The routes in this guide have been selected from four areas: Carneddau, Glyders, Snowdon and Outlying Areas (comprising Moelwyns, Eifionydd, Rhinogs, Cader Idris, Arans and Arenigs), each of which has its own peculiar charm. The areas also vary in terms of popularity. Snowdon attracts a lot of first-time visitors and is in constant use during holiday and weekend periods, while venturing into the lower and less rugged mountains outside the three main areas will mean meeting only a handful of people.

Cicerone Scrambles in SnowdoniaCicerone Scrambles in Snowdonia
(Ref. Code. ISBN 9781852840884)

All the described routes lie within the northern half of the Snowdonia National Park, where the most rugged mountains are found. Good scrambling in the southern half is scarce, the rock here being typically loose or vegetated. Northern Snowdonia naturally divides into four regions. From north to south these are the Carneddau, the Glyders, the Snowdon group and Eifionydd. The best scrambles will be found in the Glyders, with the large majority concentrated on Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr. The Snowdon group also boasts many excellent routes, whereas the Carneddau and the Eifionydd regions provide only a handful.
